The First Year or Why I Need A Change

Back when I posted my first article a year ago, I had no idea I would end up being a one hit wonder. My very first article for this site is by far my most popular. Tutorials always tend to be popular, especially when they are number one in google. I’ve written a few more tutorials, but none with the success of my first one.

Through my blog a few of my friends from the past have been able to contact me, I met another Mike Doig and I was able to wrangle a few jobs based on my portfolio.

After my first article took off I felt so connected with my blog, perhaps a little too much. I had to separate myself a bit, so I could focus on real world things like paying my bills. I was living in Montreal when I created this site, since I’ve moved to LA, but now I live in Brooklyn. It’s been a very strange ride.

I highly recommend using a blog platform, especially WordPress if you are interested in building sites. I really had no idea what I was doing back when I started this site a year ago, however since then I feel very comfortable hacking around in mysql, php, javascript, css, and xhtml. Creating something really drove me to learn the ins and outs of the web.

This has been a great first year and I want to thank everyone who has at one time or another commented or contacted me through my site. I hope to make a few changes to the appearance and functionality of the site in the future and I’d like to grow beyond my 50 or so readers.
