Hey, looks like you're new here. You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I go through how I use MAMP together with Wordpress. I hope this gives you a few ideas on how you can use it as well. I tried to answer as many questions as I could, however I’m sure I just stirred up some more so please leave your questions or comments.

Need lessons on how to edit and tweak scripts in MAMP. Basically want to do minor tweaks to open source scripts and customize them for my use. Am willing to pay for online tutions. I am using MAMP on my iBook…
Where’s the password? BTW the MAMP download doesn’t work for me at all. Tried going in and changin code as per several commenters suggestions. Looking over posts on the MAMP site it appears I’m not the only one. The widget does’t work even with Tiger (for me at least) there’s a code fix but that doesn’t seem to work either. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!
Dear Michael,
I am installing MAMP on my MAC. I get all the way to the Wordpress install step. When I click on install.php to install Wordpress all that happens is Dreamweaver8 opens up the file install.php and Wordpress does not get installed. What do I do in order to get past this step in the set up?

“Can’t select database
We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the wordpress database.
Are you sure it exists?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?
If you don’t know how to setup a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.”
WAHT DOES THIS MEAN?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

Hi,
I’ve installed MAMP and WP successfully on my Mac, but no MAMP/WP/Mac web tutorial goes past the install and open it in the WP admin console part. I’m able to view my local site through the WP admin console, but can’t seem to get Dreamweaver’s Manage site settings correct in order to view each separate .php file in a browser or see code edits as i go. The Preview in browser menu option won’t work because it says my URL isn’t valid and can’t be loaded. I also don’t know how to test database, etc. but was hoping someone could at least look at my info below and see if the info entered makes sense for the items listed. Please?
Below, I’ve typed in my Mangage Sites edits window settings in Dreamweaver:
**Local Info window:**
Local Root folder: Macintosh HD:Applications:MAMP:htdocs:wordpress:
(followed a tutorial on this)
Links relative to: Site root
HTTP address: http://localhost:8888/wordpress/
(A wp test theme site shows up here fine, but I’m not familiar with the site root setting. How do i get the links in my local site code not to show the full path [img src="http://localhost:8888/wordpress/images/header_1.jpg"] , but only show [/images/header_1.jpg etc.? I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to use site root this time instead of relative to document, but it adds the full URL paths to my links, which isn’t what I’d want)
**Remote Info window:**
Access: Local/Network
Remote folder: Macintosh HD:Applications:MAMP:htdocs:wordpress:
(do i go deeper into my :wp-content:themes: folder or stop here?)
**Testing Server window:**
Server Model: PHP MySQL
Access: Local/Network
Testing server folder: Macintosh HD:Applications:MAMP:db:mysql:wordpress:
(I have no idea if this is the right path. Do i stop here? Also, what is the URL prefix link below? The Mac uses “:” instead of “/” when i browse for the testing server. I don’t know what the URL for it would be then.)
URL Prefix: http://Macintosh HD/
(With my info listed above, do I touch this one? The Dreamweaver note says the URL Prefix is the location of the site’s root folder on the application server. do i edit it to something??)
I’d really appreciate any info, thanks!
Mike , MAMP works great I just have a problem. How can I upload my website once I have finished desinging it on my mac. I just cannot get the site upload it

I put a XHTML-website in httdocs but the links I made don’t show up. How can that happen?
Hello,
Just found Flashlinks do not work in httdocs. Next question is: Flash is’nt compatible?
Thank you so much for this! It has really helped me fill in the blanks in my understanding.
